A Visit to the Home for the Girls in Cabatuan

The Christmas season can be a sad time for many people, and the Yuletide season is best celebrated when blessings are shared. The Metro Iloilo Water District shared what meager blessings it can to the residents of the DSWD Home for the Girls when it visited them in their compound in Brgy. Pungtod, Cabatuan, Iloilo last December 1, 2022.

The MIWD brought with them food packs and meriendas, and hosted a few games to the delight of the children of the Home for the Girls. Educational talks were also given by the MIWD staff, and everybody;s tummies were full and faces were all alight with genuine smiles after the activity.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) established the Home for the Girls back in 2000, as a safe sanctuary to young females who have experienced abuse or neglect in their homes or in their home environments. They have, in some form of another, been victims of incest
rape, sexual abuse, trafficking , and neglect. As such, each resident is being handled with extreme confidentiality and given every available safety precaution.

Residents stay from between 3 months up to a year, while being looked after by licensed DSWD social workers, and are given all the help, guidance and education they require in order for them to return safely to their communities.
