Maasin Watershed Tree Planting 2022

In line with the corporate responsibility to care for the rivers. watersheds, groundwater sources of water in its service areas, employees from the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) kick off the year with a tree planting program at the Maasin Watershed last February 11, 2022.
The tree planting activity was under the assistance of the Protected Area Management Board, or PAMB, which is under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The seedlings themselves were generously provided for by the Maasin LGU. The tree planting activity is one of the many major initiatives that MIWD and DENR will be conducting for the year 2022, which will include Tree Growing, Slope Protection Projects, the reinstatement of the Green Guard within the watershed area, and other water quality improvement measures and environmental protection initiatives that will assuredly have long lasting, positive impacts on the preservation and maintenance of the water quality of the Maasin Watershed.
The surface water of the Maasin Watershed provides for approximately 64 % of the water needs of Iloilo City and MIWD’s provincial service areas—an important fact that underscores the importance of preserving the water quality integrity of the area.
