Getting One’s Feet Wet: MIWD continues advocacy on Mangrove Tree Planting and Clean Up Drive
The Staff and Management of Metro Iloilo Water District will go to great lenghts to press forth their advocacy for nature as they revisit, for the third time around, the Leganes Integrated Katunggan Eco-park (LIKE) for a mangrove tree planting and coastal cleanup activity.
Braving the high coastal tides and the overbearing heat, the MIWD employees planted a total of 250 mangrove seedlings–about 8-10 seedlings per employee, with assistance and orientation given by the Ilonggo members of the Zoological Society of London, who gave a very comprehensive and up-to-date lecture on mangrove planting.
MIWD’s new General Manager, Mr. Alfredo Tayo, III CESE also got their hands dirty with the tree planting activity, together with one of MIWD’s Board of Director’s active member, Ms. Jeanette Lloyd, and held their own against the blazing heat alongside even with the much younger MIWD staff.
Welcoming the MIWD employees was the ever active Leganes Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO)- Mr. Wilson Batislaon and the ever present President of the Coastal Barangay Mangrove Seedling Growers Association (CBMSGA), Mr. Joseph Espinosa.
