Jalaur Megadam Visit (June 27, 2022)
Representatives from the Engineering Department of MIWD together with representatives from its JV Partners–Metro Pacific Iloilo Water and Metro Iloilo Bulk Water Supply Corporation–together with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) paid a scheduled guided visit to the NIA’s Jalaur Megadam in Calinog, Iloilo. After proper negotiations have concluded and construction has finished, the Jalaur Megadam will be able to supply the service areas of MIWD/MPIW with more than sufficient amount of water to the public, exceeding that of the current water production of MIB/MPIW. Target completion of the Megadam is by year 2024.
The Jalaur Megadam, or properly known as Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project Stage II (JRMP II) is the first large-scale water reservoir to be constructed in the Visayas and Mindanao regions. Upon completion, it will be able to provide year-round irrigation, hydroelectric power, and in the case for MIWD and its joint venture partners, more than sufficient enough bulk water supply to not only provide water for the entire service areas of MIWD in the province and city of Iloilo, but will enable its JV partners to eventually expand its service areas in the surrounding provinces.
While the current production of water the MIB/MPIW can output is 80 million litres per day (MLD), the JRMP II can further augment the water supply of MPIW/MIB with an additional 84 MLD by itself, finally closing the gap between water need and supply for the Province and City of Iloilo.
Target completion of the JRMP II is by year 2023, and target commencement of operation will be by the year 2024.
