Jaro Massive Pipelaying Project Groundbreaking Ceremony
The morning blazed hot with anticipation and excitement at Jaro Plaza, as it is the symbolic nexus point for the historic activity within the water utility sector and for the people of Jaro as well.
August 8, 2024 finds the Metro Iloilo Water District as witness to and partner for the groundbreaking ceremony enacted by its JV company for water distribution, the Metro Pacific Iloilo Water.
The ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony serves to commence the massive pipelaying project of the MPIW for the Jaro District. The project will utilize imported water pipes from Spain that is the largest of its kind in the Asia Pacific region. When completed, it will reduce the non-revenue water in the area from the current 70% to 20%, or an equivalent 10-15 million liters of water per day for the water concessionaires. The capital expenditure for the project is estimated to be 490 million pesos.
Though Jaro is the hub of the project, surrounding districts such as Lapaz and Mandurriao (and other adjacent districts, to a certain degree) will stand to benefit from this project as water pressure and quantity will increase as well.
Present for the groundbreaking were representatives from the City Government, headed by Mayor Jerry Treñas, represented by Ms. Raisa Treñas-Chu. The City Council, led by Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, was also present at said occation.
The occasion was also graced by representatives from MIWD’s JV partner, the Metro Pacific Investment Corporation, Mr. Jonet Sanalila and MPIW’s COO, Mr. Angelo David Berba. The MIWD management were also witness to the occasion, with none other than its Chairperson Rebecca Maravilla, Director Jeanette Lloyd and MIWD General Manager Mr. Alfredo Tayo III participating in the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony alongside representatives from the City Government and Provincial Government. GM Alfredo Tayo III was asked to give a message on behalf of the MIWD, and the message resonated much with the gathered crowd.
