MIWD 47th Anniversarry Mangrove Planting

The Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) held a mangrove planting activity on October 2, 2025, at the Iloilo Sunset Boulevard as part of its 47th anniversary celebration. The event was organized in partnership with Metro Pacific Iloilo Water, the Metro Iloilo Bulk Water Supply Corporation, and in coordination with the Iloilo City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).

Leading the program were MIWD General Manager Alfredo Tayo III, CESE, and Board Chairperson Rebecca Maravilla, joined by Angelo David Berba, Chief Operating Officer of Metro Pacific Iloilo Water and Metro Iloilo Bulk Water Supply Corporation. Messages from partner agencies and their partner agencies echo this year’s MIWD Anniversary Theme, “Strengthening Partnerships, Bridging Gaps”, as well as highlighting the importance of agency collaborative efforts in protecting Iloilo’s coastal ecosystem.

Officials from CENRO, including Ms Bella Marie Roga, Mr. Jendrex Casabuena and Mr. Ian Sanco were in attendance, wherein Mr. Sanco–a Senior Environmental Management Specialit from the CENRO, gave a short orientation on the methods of planting the mangove propagules along the Sunset Boulevard. All in all, the MIWD, MIB, and MPIW were able to quickly plant 150 mangrove propagules before the sun had set.

The MIWD expresses deep gratitude to the MPIW and MIB for partnering with them for the manrove planting initiative and for co-sponsoring the snacks given to the participants. The MIWD also acknowledges and give their thanks to the Iloilo City Environment and Natural Resources Office and the key CENRO Officials who made the event possible: Senior Environmental Management Specialist Mr. Robert Escoto, Supervising EMS Ms. Susan Javellana, and of course City Government Department Head II Ms. Janis Sy.
