MIWD Donates 2M to Iloilo City Gov in Deed of Donation for COVID Relief Efforts

August 9, 2010—the MIWD, together with the City Government of Iloilo, come together for a MOA signing as MIWD donates 2 Million Pesos for the Iloilo City Government’s continuing Covid-19 Relief Efforts. Taking part in the MOA singing done online are officials from the City Government  and MIWD, among them are the City Mayor himself, the Honorable Mayor Jerry Trenas, MIWD Chairperson Rebecca Maravilla, MIWD OIC GM  Amarylis Josephine Castro, MIWD Vice Chairperson (and John B. Lacson’s very own) Dr. Ronald Raymond Sebastian, and Iloilo City Congresswoman  Jam Jam Baronda.

Though it had been two years into the global pandemic of the COVID-19 virus and even with the end almost nearing in sight for the two-year fight against the infectious disease, (with the roll out of vaccines on a global scale), relief efforts have been strained near their breaking point as resources both monetary and manpower are left exhausted by the worldwide outbreak that began as far as late 2019.

Within the Philippine context, Iloilo City has been among the top resilient cities and one of the most well organized when the global pandemic hit the shores of the Philippines, in no small part to the serendipitous and timely election of Mayor Jerry Trenas, who led the people of Iloilo against the outbreak, earning Iloilo City the moniker (among Filipinos) as the Wakanda of the Philippines.

However, two years of a protracted fight against a global-scale crisis has left the city exhausted as well, and LGUs and private businesses have also joined in on the fight since the crisis began. MIWD, itself has been donating to both the City and Provincial Government since 2020 in terms of testing kits, cash donations and goods and services.
