MIWD Holds Poster Making Contest for 45th Anniversary

Being a longtime patron of the Ilonggo talent and the arts over the decades, the Metro Iloilo Water District held an On The Spot Poster Making Contest last July 28, 2023. High school students of all grade levels from various high schools were in attendance as contestants, and most were accompanied by their parents, friends, classmates and coaches from their respective schools. The contest was held at the relatively newly-rennovated MIWD Boardroom at the MIWD Building Ground Floor. This also served as a milestone of sorts, as the last Poster-making contest that MIWD held was more than a decade ago, and serves to kick off the upcoming 45th Anniversary this coming September of 2023

The contest was open to all High Schools within the service area of the MIWD, particularly (but not limited to) schools that have Arts Programs. A maximum of two contestants per school were allowed, regardless of their grade level.

The panel of judges include the Chairperson for the 45th Anniversary Committee and MIWD’s Finance Department Manager, Ms. Amarylis Josephine Castro as well as MIWD’s very own resident artist, Ms Maria Dina Lira.

Heading the panel of judges was accomplished Ilonggo Multi-Disciplinary artist Ms Kim de Felipe, whose latest work include an exhibit collaboration with the National Museum’s “Ang Tamun nga Bulawan” for the homecoming of the Oton Gold Death Mask.

Winning third place was Mandurriao National High School’s sole entrant, Ms. Nessa Joy C. Calantoc. Taking second place was Oton National High School’s Princess Belle M. Otero and topping the contest in first place was Iloilo City National High School’s Rania Tan. Aside from these major prize winners, two contestants were chosen for the Manager’s Choice Award—entries personally chosen by the MIWD OIC General Manager Ms. Janalle Manejero: Ryan Emmanuel Tan of ICNHS and, once again, Princess Belle M. Otero of ONHS.

Owing to the upcoming Anniversary, the theme was made out to be: Relevance to the theme, 30%; Technical Merit, 30%; and Creativity, 30% and Originality, 10%. The third place winner gets 2,000 Pesos, while the second place winner received 3,000 pesos, while the grand prize winner receives 5,000 pesos. All non-winning contestant came home with 500 pesos consolation prizes, and the two Manager’s Choice awardees took home 1,000 pesos each.
