MIWD Silent Fire Donation Drive














The Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) once more leaps into action sans fanfare as it races against time to help out the afflicted families of the recent incidents of fire in Iloilo City.
Grocery packs were given to eligible individuals and families affected by the recent fires. in Barangay Lapuz Sur District and Zone 3, Barangay Tacas, Jaro, via the MIWD Climate Change and Resiliency Committee.
The fire that broke out in Barangay Rizal, Lapuz Sur happened last January 7, 2025 and resulted in one fatality, desytroying 17 houses and leaving one partially damaged, leaving a total of 31 families homeless. Meanwhile, the fires in Zone 3 Barangay Tacas happened last January 4, 2025 and totaled 23 houses, displacing 26 families and 97 individuals.
On-field to facilitate the donations were MIWD Property Manager Mr. Norman Nic Sanares and MIWD Medical Technologist Nanette Rapista, while the MIWD Climate Change Secretariat Cheryl Joy Menisis coordinates with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), as they are the only agency that are authorized to give the MIWD a list of eligible recipients.
All in all, 43 grocery packs were distributed to Barangay Lapuz and 30 grocery packs for Barangay Tacas. Each grocery pack contains 5kg of rice, coffee, milk, cans of sarduntes and other necessities such as cooking oil and sugar packaged in reusable water buckets.
Last December 27, 2024 the MIWD had also donated similar grocery packs to the fire-affected residents of Barangay Habog-Habog Salvacion; which happened last December 16, 2024, had affected 50 homes had and resulted in three casualties.
