March 22, 2021 — The World Water Day celebration being held every year by the Metro Iloilo District will never be the same again beginning this year, as this year, the MIWD joins forces with its JV partners, the Metro Iloilo Bulk Water Supply Corporation (MIB) and the Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW) in the biggest World Water Day photo contest ever—the MIWD/MPIW/MIB World Water Day 2021 PHOTO ART CONTEST.
Where before there were only 6-8 entries being received, this year the entries numbered up to 57, with a very large ratio of more than half being very solid contenders for the photo competition. Ultimately, only the Top 12 were printed for display at the Robinson’s Place Pavia Mall, and will be in display for all the public to see up to March 31, 2021.
Though there was supposed to be a grand opening ceremony for the Water Awareness Month Exhibit by the Provincial Government at Robinson’s Pavia (of which the Photo Art Contest is a part of), the Judging of the Photo Contest still proceeded as planned on World Water Day itself, March 22—aligning with the exhibit opening of the same Water Awareness Month of the Provincial Government.
An impromptu Awarding Ceremony was given immediately after the judging of the photos, with the judges being MIWD General Manager Engr. Rolixto Jodieres, Jr., MIBWSC COO Engr. Rowena Dalosa, and MPIW Labor and Employee Relations Officer Francis Gerard Habana.
Bagging the First Prize was Jesse B. Villanueva, winning the grand prize of Ten Thousand Pesos (PHO 10,000), the biggest prize among the semi-annual photo contests being held by MIWD in the past. Second Place Winner was Ernesto J. Villanueva, Jr. and winning Third Place was Eduardo Mallada, Jr., winning PHP 6,000 and PHP 4,000 in prizes each, respectively. Thus far, this has been the most well received among all the previous World Water Day Photo Contests initiated by MIWD–whereas previous contests would only have 8 entries, this year had 57 entries to boot, with half of them being very solid contenders for the Top 12.
The awe inspiring photos—along with the Top 12 entries—will be in display at Robinson’s Place Pavia from march 22 up to March 31, 2021.
The MIWD/MIB/MPIW Photo Art Contest is part of a larger exhibit by the PENRO-R6 and CENRO-R6, which includes exhibits, IEC’s, a learning nook, Video IEC and other activities organized by the Provincial and City Government of Iloilo, with simultaneous exhibits at Robinson’s Place Pavia and Robinson’s Place City Proper, along with other stakeholders including Robinson’s Place Iloilo, NIA, DENR, DA, Kahublagan Sang Panimalay Foundation, Inc., PIA, EMB and various MENRO’s
