Women-Led Limpyo Iloilo Cleanup Drive Kicks Off Women’s Month

loilo City – Braving the sweltering heat of a March afternoon, employees of the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) and their on-the-job trainees (OJTs) led a local cleanup drive as part of the Women-led Limpyo Iloilo initiative held in conjunction with the National Women’s Month this March. The “Limpyo Iloilo: Alas 4 Kontra Mosquito” cleanup drive served as the official kick-off for Water Awareness Month, a month-long environmental advocacy promoted by the Iloilo Provincial Government. The activity underscored the vital role of women in environmental stewardship, as volunteers took to the city’s public spaces to clear waste and promote sustainability.
The participants were divided into two teams, with one group focusing on the Iloilo Esplanade, a popular riverside walkway, while the other group worked at the City Butterfly Park, a cherished green space within the city. Despite the oppressive afternoon heat, the volunteers remained determined, collecting plastic waste, dried leaves, and other debris that had accumulated in these areas. The event not only enhanced the cleanliness of these locations but also reinforced the importance of maintaining Iloilo’s natural beauty and cleanliness.
