World Water Day Poster Making Contest

MIWD Celebrates WWD24 with On-The-Spot Poster Making Contest

March 21, 2025 — The Robinson’s Place Mall Pavia once again became the hub of artistic expression and environmental advocacy as it hosted the World Water Day On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest. Organized by the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD), Metro Iloilo Bulk Water Supply Corporation (MIB), Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW), and Robinson’s Place Mall Pavia, the event gathered talented high school students from various institutions within MIWD/MPIW’s service area. This year’s theme, ‘Glacier Preservation,’ underscored the crucial role glaciers play in sustaining drinking water, agriculture, and ecosystems, emphasizing the threats posed by unchecked carbon emissions and their role in glacier dissipation.

Participants from La Paz National High School, Oton National High School, Jaro National High School, Iloilo City National High School (ICNHS), Santa Barbara National Comprehensive High School, Leganes National High School, University of the Philippines High School, and West Visayas State University – Integrated Laboratory School (WVSU-ILS) showcased their creativity and technical skills in the competition.

The judging criteria included Relevance to the Theme (30%), Technical Merit (30%), Creativity (30%), and Originality (10%).

Serving as judges for the competition were none other than Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Arts curator Ms. Allyn Canja, internaitonal environmentalist Professor Edel Csoka, with Chief Judge being Iloilo-renowned costumier and painter, Ms. Kim de Felipe.

The event was graced by esteemed personalities, including Robinson’s Place Mall Manager Diane Herrera, MPIW and MIB COO Angelo David Berba, MIWD General Manager Alfredo Tayo III, MIWD Board Member Jeanette Lloyd, and MIWD Chairperson Rebecca Maravilla, who delivered the closing remarks.

A whopping Php 10,000 prize would go to the first-place winners, Php 6,000 for second place, and Php 4,000 for third place. Additionally, four Manager’s Choice Awards of Php 1,000 each and Php 1,500 consolation prizes were given to all non-winning participants, courtesy of MIWD Chairperson Rebecca Maravilla.

Placing third place was Reylynn N. Tubungbanua of (Wvsu) – Integrated Laboratory School. In a surprising turn of events, a tie in the first-place scores led the MIWD Board of Directors, particularly Chairperson Maravilla, along with MPIW COO and MIWD General Manager, to forgo a re-tally, awarding the Php 10,000 grand prize to both winners.

The first-place honors were shared by Daniel G. Herradura of UP High School and Rania Erika D. Tan of ICNHS. The victory was particularly very emotional for the ICNHS, as their representative and coach dedicated the award to two recently deceased teachers from their Special Program for the Arts, who tragically lost their lives, along with their young daughter, in a fire earlier in March.

Taking home the Manager’s Choice Awaerds were UP High School securing the honor from both MPIW and MIB, West Visayas State University receiving the award from MIWD, and Leganes National High School being recognized by Robinson’s Place Mall Pavia.

Special recognition was also given to Ms. Louge Mueno of MPIW and the dedicated staff of MIB—Ms. Sheena Marie Antonio, Engr. Ariel Huyong, Ms. Florence Harder, and Ms. Julienne Amador—for their invaluable support in ensuring the program’s success.

This marks the third consecutive year that Robinson’s Place Pavia has hosted the World Water Day celebrations, reinforcing its role as a steadfast partner in environmental advocacy. Aligned with the Iloilo Province Environmental Office’s efforts, the World Water Day On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest remains an essential part of the province’s month-long Water Awareness Month campaign, continuously inspiring the youth to champion the cause of water conservation and climate action.
